You may have noticed a new error message upon Windows start-up since December 31, 2006. The error dialog looks like this:

Windows Defender

Application failed to initialize: 0x800106ba. A problem caused Windows Defender

Service to stop. To start the service, restart your computer or search Help and Support on how to start a service manually.

In addition, you will see the following in your System Event Log:

Event Type:Error

Event Source:Service Control Manager

Event Category:None

Event ID:7023

Description:

The Windows Defender Service service terminated with the following error:

The system license has expired. Your logon request is denied.

The issue is that Windows Defender Beta support ended on December 31, 2006. Now, I would have expected this software license expire error to let you know a bit more gracefully.

The good news is that if your are running Windows XP, there is a easy fix. Simply go to Microsoft.com and look for the "Download Windows Defender" link near the bottom of the home page. Follow the download and install instructions, and you will be up to date, protected and will have fixed the start-up error in just minutes.

Now for the bad news...

If you are running Windows 2000, Microsoft has decided to no longer support the Windows Defender product for the Windows 2000 platform. You can fix the start-up error by uninstalling Windows Defender from the Add/Remove Programs in your Control Panel. Unfortunately, this will leave you unprotected from Spyware and Malware. Since Microsoft is no longer providing a Spyware protection product for Windows 2000, you will need to purchase a third party product in order to be protected in the future.

I must say that I am more than annoyed by this decision at Microsoft to discontinue the Windows Defender product for Windows 2000. I am a big fan of Windows 2000 as it has been one of the most stable operating system made by Microsoft to date. I am aware that Microsoft has discontinued official support for Win2k as of June 30, 2005. Actually, it has entered the "Extended Support Phase" for the Win2k product. This means they will have "extended" support until June 2010... without Spyware protection! This is like the proverbial knife in the back for existing Win2k users. Actually, more like the proverbial gun to the head to get you to upgrade to Windows Vista.

Now, there is no doubt that Windows XP and Vista are a much better protected operating systems right out of the box. In the networks that I support, XP Pro SP2 or Windows 2003 Server is the standard for any new deployments. I just resent the gun to the head thing!

For Win2k users, you will obviously make your own decision about this dilemma in which I see you have three choices:

1) Uninstall Windows Defender and just take your chances on operating without Spyware protection.

2) Uninstall Windows Defender and purchase a third party Spyware protection product.

3) Decide to put your money towards the upgrade to XP or Vista, which will include the free

Spyware protection.

I would not recommend choice 1. The Internet is just too dangerous of a place to venture without protection. You may choose choice 2 because you love Win2k and just do not want to hassle with the potential upgrade headaches. Or, you may choose 3 because you are up to the upgrade task and you feel it make more sense to invest in the future.

Pai gow poker uses a joker, so this means there are 53 cards in the deck. However, the joker is not a true wild card. It can be used to complete a straight, flush, or straight flush, otherwise it is an ace. The object of the game is for a player to create two poker hands out of the seven cards in his hand: a five-card poker hand and a two-card poker hand. The five-card hand must rank higher than the two-card hand. The two-card hand is often called the hand "in front" or "on top", and the five-card hand is called the hand "behind" or "bottom", as they are placed that way in front of the player when he is done setting them.

In Pai Gow, you play against the dealer, and both of you will be trying to make the best possible hand. Every round begins with the player making a bet. You get seven cards initially. You then group the cards into two hands, a five-card hand (which must be the high hand) and a two-card hand (which must be the low hand). The ranking of the five-card hand is the same as in poker, except that a straight of A-2-3-4-5 is the second highest straight.

The dealer sets his hands according to the "house way" once you have grouped your cards. Then the two five-hand cards will be compared. After that, the two-hand cards will be compared. The highest hand will win in each case. The player is paid with even money, less a 5% commission, if both of the player's hands beat both of the dealer's hands. The round is considered a push if the player wins one hand, but loses the other to the dealer. The player will lose the entire wager if he or she loses both hands. The dealer wins tie hands.

I do not really believe that 95% of people actually fail in the industry of network marketing. What I really believe is that 95% of people who get involved with network marketing actually fail to make the amount of money that they set out to make. In fact many of these people will actually lose money and end up giving up on their network marketing company, which results in failure.

There are several reasons why most people who start network marketing will never make the amount of money they intend on. In my opinion there are two main important reasons why people fail in network marketing.

The first and ultimate main reason for such a high failure rate in the network marketing industry is the lack up proper training.

Lets face it; this industry is an industry that is pursued by armatures. What I mean by this is that in this industry of network marketing we have people from every other occupation and industry who come to the MLM industry because they want to work at home and leave their current job. These people will want to leave their occupation in which they have gone to university or college for several years where they were trained in, so they can join an MLM company, which they were not trained in, and work from home. The problem is most people think that they should automatically be a successful superstar from day one.

People do not understand that they are leaving a profession that they were trained in so they can go work in an industry that they were not trained in.

What is creating the 95% failure rate is that 95% of the people who do leave their current occupation to pursue network marketing will not believe they need to now get trained in their new business or career. Most people will just rely on just their upline in their company who is in their same position as well for the training. Then the 5% of people who do succeed are the ones who take training very seriously and get and pay for the proper training. They become students of network marketing.

The second most important reason for the 95% failure rate in network marketing is lack of money or capital for building the business.

Many people who join the network marking industry are looking to make money and do not want to have to spend the money to make the money. Believe it or not but many people will pursue this industry looking for a cheap little program that cost them $20 - $50 and then want to promote the business with only using free methods. If people do use some paid methods such as buying business opportunity leads or newspaper advertising etc. they will not make enough money to even cover their cost of advertising. Then they will eventually run out of money and have to quit what they are doing. These people are almost dead in the water before they even start by doing this.

People need to realize that when they join a network marketing company and want to build a business that they are going to need to spend some money.

If you do not have boat loads of money to just throw into your business for advertising then you are going to need a business that allows you to make lots of money fast.

You need to have a product and service that has a profit margin that allows you to make a worth while profit. Do you realize that the products and services in a traditional store has a huge mark up on price? This has a lot to do with giving a margin for getting customers in the door. The same needs to apply with your network marketing business. I am not talking about the company having a margin to allow paying out commissions to the distributors, I am talking about the distributor having the profit margin for allowing a good marketing budget.

So in conclusion I really believe that if you really want to be in 5% that really succeed, you will need proper training and a product and service that has good profit margin so you can make more money fast to pay for your advertising.

The Bastille, formally known as Bastille Saint-Antoine, was the notorious Parisian prison which is best known for the 'storming of the Bastille' which took place on July 14th, 1789 which is now synonymous with the beginning of the French Revolution.

A year later the storming of the Bastille was celebrated by the 'Fte de la Fdration' loosely translated as 'federation celebrates'. Today France annually celebrates the 'Fte Nationale' a national holiday on July 14th. The day is more commonly known outside of France as Bastille Day.

It is commonly asserted that the storming of the Bastille French for 'castle' or 'stronghold' by the French peasants was solely to release the prisoners, however the Bastille was also used as a store for the French Army's weapons and as such was an obvious, but less romantic, target.

Today, Bastille Day is marked by a huge military parade on the Champs-lyses in Paris at which the French President takes the salute. Following the parade, the President traditionally hosts a garden party at his official residence, the lyse Palace, and then addresses the nation. In the afternoon there is often a political rally at the Place de la Bastille, site of the prison, and in the evening there are a number of organised firework displays. It has to be said that many historians believe that the Storming of the Bastille was more a symbolic act providing a rallying point for the revolution rather than being a real act of defiance of the state. In reality when the Bastille was stormed, there were only a handful of prisoners left in the cells and the Bastille itself was poorly defended by less than 100 soldiers too old for normal service. These 'invalides' had been reinforced by 30 grenadiers bringing the total force to just over 100. At the end of July 14, within the Bastille there were a hundred dead protestors and only one defender. The death count of the defenders was to rise once the Bastille had fallen with several soldiers being reported as having been lynched and murdered in the streets. The glorification of the events in Paris of July 14th 1789 is owed primarily to the publication of the work 'Rvolutions de Paris which included many false descriptions of both the actual events and of the number of prisoners actually released.

As we have seen today, Bastille Day is celebrated as any other national holiday that is, as a joyous day of festivities and organised events. Many Parisians organise their own local celebration parties and it's a great time for people to get together. In the UK, there is some growth in the understanding of what the day symbolises the British love an underdog and there are some low-key and localised celebrations. We have not seen a great demand for Bastille Party products as yet but as summers become warmer this trend may change as Bastille Day offers many opportunities for themed fancy dress parties.

Taking care of the canvas accessories of your boat need not be a time consuming or difficult task. A little regular maintenance and attention to detail when you are boating will make your canvas last the life of your boat.

Normally the canvas components of a boat are very few: a convertible top, side curtains (which usually are not really much canvas), boots, and boat covers. Lets address each of these items.

Convertible Tops Most boats have some sort of convertible top. Whether yours is a small fishing boat, a runabout, a sailboat or a family cruiser, thy all employ the same basic principle. There is a metal (usually aluminum or stainless) frame that is attached to the gunwale of the boat by means of a swiveling piece of hardware which permits the top to fold down or stand up in a position to yield sufficient shade to the boats occupants. When deployed the top may be attached to a permanent windshield or other boat structure by means of small button snaps or perhaps by means of a zipper. Care must always be taken when attaching or detaching the canvas to pull the snaps directly up from a grasp that is very close to the snap. Many tops have been ruined by crewmembers trying to grab the canvas at one end and, with a single yank, try to unsnap more than a single snap. Where zippers are used, care must be taken to get the zipper started properly before attempting to zip the length of the zipper. You may ease this process by removing pressure on the canvas by detaching the aft end of the top from its clips to get the zipper started. You will find this to be considerably easier. Marine zippers tend to get dry and hard to work. Applying a little chap stick along the zipper and zipping it open and closed a couple of times will tend to ease zipper problems greatly.

Whenever the canvas convertible top is not deployed, it should be secured in it appropriate Boot (Usually a small zip up canvas cover that safely covers the folded up convertible top in its closed position.) or secured in such a way that it will not catch air as the boat moves along in the water. When closing the top to place it in the boot, be sure that it is neatly folded and not simply crammed into the boot. If you must cover the top when it is wet, be certain to open it up and let it air dry before leaving it in the boot for any extended period of time. To store a wet piece of canvas is to ask for mold and mildew which are the biggest enemies of canvas beyond human neglect.

Side Curtains Many times, there are small, custom made pieces of clear plastic which provide closure between a deployed convertible top and the gunwale of the boat. This is to fully enclose the area under the top from the weather elements. Usually the side curtains are attached to the convertible top by means of a zipper or small, metal button snaps and also attached to the gunwale or windshield of the boat by button snaps. Care must me taken when storing these curtains to ensure that the clear plastic material is rolled up and not pinched as it is stored as this will result in cracks and tears in the plastic material. Like the snaps on the top, the buttons should be removed one at a time to ensure that they do not tear or rip. Zippers should be periodically lubricated with wax or Chap Stick. When the side curtains are stored, make certain that they are stored in a dry space and that heavy objects are not placed upon them or other items which might tend to move and scratch the plastic.

There may also be an aft curtain to fully enclose the cockpit. Usually, these are mostly canvas and sometimes contain a clear plastic window. The same techniques for storing, folding and deploying apply as with side curtains.

All marine supply stores sell rather inexpensive repair kits and extra snaps so that damaged snaps can easily be repaired. It pays to do this in advance of the need for the cover.
