Women and Weightlifting

To many women, when they read or hear the word weight-lifting. They sometimes automatically jump to the image of steroidal hulk-like men and women bodybuilders. What some might not know, is that weight lifting is a proven method of burning fat. I would encourage anyone to implement a lifting routine into your exercise program if you're looking to lose weight or lose fat. Reason being...When most women think about losing weight, they usually think of two things...

The first is to go on a diet which involves consuming fewer calories, and the second would involve some sort of aerobic exercise such as jogging or running. Of course, you will see some success when combining these two options...But most of the time, they are short lived. The weight comes back once you fall off the fat loss bandwagon when you return to your normal day of life.

Yes, you will build some lean muscle as you lift..But try not to get the idea that if you do start lifting, you'll turn into a female version of the hulk. That is false. Females do not have the same genetics as males do...When males lift, its only natural for them to bulk up. Its in our hormones and genetics to naturally bulk while lifting.

Whats the source for burning calories? Your metabolism right? During aerobic training, you only burn the most calories during that workout session and your metabolism usually slows down there after. With weightlifting on the other hand, not only do you burn calories while you lift, but your body continues to burn calories hours and hours after your workout is over. When your muscle fibers break down while lifting, it takes energy to rebuild these muscles. And what energy is your body using? Yep, calories. Lots and lots of calories.

So even when your asleep, your body is still burning calories. Thats the higher advantage weight lifting has over any other aerobic exercise. Don't get me wrong, aerobic exercises does promote your metabolism to burn more calories just not as effective as anaerobic training would. Dont worry about getting massively huge, you can adjust the amount of weight and reps you perform and sculpt the way you want your body to look.
